History of the Lagoon 380
The Lagoon 380 is a cruising catamaran designed by Van Peteghem/Lauriot-Prevost and first built in 1999. It quickly became the best-selling cruising catamaran of all time. This model was built by Jeanneau's catamaran division in France, which was later sold to Construction Navale Bordeaux (CNB), part of the Beneteau Group. Production began in 1999, and the improved Lagoon 380 S2 was introduced in 2003. Production continued until 2019, with approximately 1000 boats built.
The Lagoon 380 is primarily constructed of solid polyester fiberglass below the waterline, with above-waterline sections of polyester fiberglass and balsa or foam sandwich. The deck is a balsa sandwich. It features a fractional sloop rig with a deck-stepped mast, diamond stay swept backstays, and aluminum spars with continuous stainless steel wire rigging. The twin hulls have nearly vertical stems, reversed transoms with steps and swim platforms, twin spade rudders controlled by a wheel, and fixed twin keels.
The Lagoon 380 has been used for ocean crossings and world circumnavigations. It is renowned for its above-average performance and can reach speeds up to 10 knots in strong winds. With wider hulls, low aspect ratio keels, and a heavy displacement, the Lagoon 380's performance decreases significantly as you approach the apparent wind. It is also slow in light winds, and most sailors will prefer to motor.
Why is this Lagoon 380 interesting to buy?
The Lagoon 380 is interesting to buy for several reasons. Firstly, it's the best-selling cruising catamaran of all time, testament to its popularity and reliability. Designed by Van Peteghem/Lauriot-Prevost, it perfectly combines robustness, performance, and elegance. Its solid polyester fiberglass and lightweight sandwich construction offer an ideal balance of strength and performance. Moreover, its ability to undertake ocean crossings and world circumnavigations makes it a safe choice for offshore adventures. Finally, its spacious layout and easy handling make it an ideal boat for families or entertaining guests, ensuring unparalleled comfort and privacy for everyone on board.
