A Mythical Sailboat Ready to Sail
I am proud to present my SUN LEGEND 41, a mythical sailboat from Jeanneau, known for its seagoing qualities, balance under sail, and robustness. Designed for offshore cruising and racing, this 1986 model remains a reference among large production sailboats thanks to its high-performance hull designed by architect Doug Peterson and its solid construction in laminated polyester.
History and Maintenance
My SUN LEGEND 41 benefits from a transparent history, recent expertise, and numerous recent works and equipment that make it ready to sail again for beautiful cruises, whether coastal, offshore, or transoceanic.
Technical Specifications
With its 12.25 m length and 3.94 m width, the SUN LEGEND 41 offers generous volumes, a deep and well-protected cockpit, and a spacious and functional interior. Although the standing rigging should be partially replaced as a preventive measure, the entire sail plan testifies to particular attention paid to safety and performance.
Energy Autonomy
My SUN LEGEND 41 has also benefited from modernization of its energy autonomy. Three solar panels installed between 2022 and 2023 ensure good independence at anchor, supported by batteries from 2022 and 2023. A CRISTEC shore charger and a renovated 220 V circuit guarantee reliable power on board. The comfort equipment includes hot water, cold unit, gas stove, cockpit enclosure, lazy bag, lazy jack, electric windlass with control at the helm, and a 600-liter freshwater capacity allowing to sail with all the necessary comfort.
Electronics and Navigation
The electronics are complete and functional: Raymarine central unit with ST60 TRIDATA displays, color GPS plotter Raymarine C80, Raymarine autopilot, wind vane-anemometer, fixed VHF NAVICO 4800, AIS transmitter and receiver, portable VHF, Navionics navigation software. This arsenal makes the SUN LEGEND 41 ready for offshore sailing with modern means of control and safety.
Safety
On the safety side, the boat is equipped with a 2021 liferaft (to be serviced), a distress beacon (battery until 2032), an IOR pole, navigation lights, and mandatory equipment, to be updated according to the program. The 2020 mooring completes the equipment.
Engine
The propulsion is provided by a Perkins of 36.8 kW (approximately 50 hp), 3,108 hours on the clock, starting without difficulty and functioning correctly. Engine maintained by its owner assisted by a professional mechanic. In 2025, heat exchanger cleaned, silent blocks replaced, new propeller shaft as well as the stuffing box and the hydrolube ring. Stainless steel exhaust elbow, maintenance up to date.
Structure and Expertise
Structurally, the 2023 expertise report confirms the absence of osmosis and a healthy hull. All valves and hull penetrations were replaced in 2025.
