Owner's comments
Presentation of the CHATAM 60
I am selling my Gilbert Caroff plan, this CHATAM 60, an exceptional cruising cutter. It is a full aluminium lifting keel with a draught of 1.10 metres and a beam of 3.20 metres, built in a single unit.
The owner's words
My CHATAM 60 is solid, with its 16mm aluminium bottom. It is equipped with twin diesel engines, 3 heating systems, and everything necessary for long-distance navigation.
In 2017/2018 it underwent a complete refit. Thanks to its fully enclosed and insulated cockpit with a sliding watertight door, the helm station is perfectly protected. With its two rudders and a swivelling keel, the CHATAM 60 sits flat on its heels and allows anchorages thanks to its shallow draught.
This CHATAM 60 is a second-hand, fully equipped and barely used boat. It is a boat designed for expeditions to the ends of the earth.
Owner's description
Life on board
My CHATAM 60 offers a large aft cabin and two forward cabins, with bunks equipped with slatted bases (in campervan style) and mattresses. Each cabin has a desk.
There is an aft head compartment with a shower and a forward head compartment, also with a shower. Each head compartment is equipped with an electrical Lavac toilet and a black water tank of approximately 500 litres.
The saloon has an elevated table with an outward view. There is a seat under the library. A workshop with a washing machine is located in the bow.
The galley is equipped with a two-burner ENO gas cooker with oven (2023), a refrigerator and a CRUISE 40 freezer. The boat has 1000 litres of fresh water in stainless steel tanks.
There are numerous storage lockers. Heating is provided by convector heaters in each cabin and in the saloon, fan heaters in the head compartments, an Eberspacher boiler with air heaters in each cabin and head compartment, and a Dickinson Antartic stove in the saloon with air heaters in each cabin.
Electronics and electricity
My CHATAM 60 is equipped with a FURUNO M1835 radar with a 10.4-inch screen. It also has a FURUNO FCV628 colour sounder pack.
A FANLESS 15 256 SSD PC with a 19-inch screen is installed in front of the chart table, equipped with the Time Zero Navigator navigation software. The boat is also equipped with an AIS transceiver with antenna.
A 17-inch NUEVO screen is installed in the cockpit. The boat features a SIMRAD autopilot (previously ROBERTSON) and a SIMRAD NAC 3 AP 44 autopilot with a wind mode (2023).
The SIMRAD wind vane was replaced in 2022. The boat has a long-range 3G/4G PRO pack antenna (reception up to 20 NM from the coast) and a STARLINK marine antenna with a 50 GB subscription (2024).
A IRIDIUM 9555 satellite phone with a fixed antenna is also installed. The boat is equipped with 4 new 12V ODYSSEE PC 1800FT 214 Ah service batteries and 2 new 24V service batteries for the radar, depth sounder, fog horn and wipers.
There are batteries for each engine, the generator, the windlass and the bow thruster. Two solar panels are installed on the arch.
Safety
My CHATAM 60 is equipped with 2 Harken ST56 electric winches for genoa sheets. It also has a winch for the staysail and genoa furler, a winch for the staysail sheet, and a winch for the keel.
A manual winch handle, a mast track and a Harken mainsail trolley are also installed. The boat is equipped with a Waldron boom brake.
The windlass and the tunnel bow thruster use 80 metres of 12mm chain and a 35 kg CQR anchor. All UV strips were replaced in 2018, as well as the running rigging. The staysail stay was replaced in 2019 and the genoa stay will be replaced in May 2025.
All winches and the windlass were serviced in 2023. The keel was overhauled in 2023. The boat is also equipped with a Whaly 5-place roto-moulded rigid dinghy with a 6hp TOHATSU engine.
A 6 L scuba tank (2024 tested) and a 12 L scuba tank (2024 tested) are available. A snorkelling set with hose and regulator (2022) is also installed. A sea water pump for washing the deck is present.
A 2023 serviced offshore liferaft, 6 lifejackets serviced in 2023, flares and smoke signals from 2023 complete the safety equipment.
Refit 2017/2018
During the 2017/2018 refit, a closed and insulated cockpit was built, along with a rigid bulwark, an arch and a davit for the dinghy. The electronics and electricity were renewed, a generator, a desalinator, a Dickinson stove and an Eberspacher heating system were installed.
Owner’s opinion
This ready-to-sail CHATAM 60 is a unique boat with its insulated cockpit and 16mm bottom. It can be handled easily by two crew members or even single-handed.
The halyard manoeuvres and reefs are done at the foot of the mast in complete safety. The on-board comfort is exceptional and navigation watch from the cockpit is unrivalled.
Why is this CHATAM 60 interesting?
This CHATAM 60 is particularly interesting for several reasons. Firstly, its enclosed and insulated cockpit offers optimal protection against harsh weather, which is a major asset for long voyages. Secondly, its 16mm aluminium bottom guarantees exceptional strength and longevity.
The twin diesel engines and 3 heating systems allow for comfortable sailing in a variety of conditions. In addition, the complete refit in 2017/2018 has significantly modernised and improved the boat's equipment.
The swivelling keel and dual rudders provide manoeuvrability and stability, while the shallow draught facilitates anchoring. Finally, the comprehensive and recent safety equipment, along with the solar panels and generator, make this CHATAM 60 a boat ready to meet the challenges of remote expeditions.
